A motorcyclist has been airlifted to hospital following a multi-vehicle collision in North Yorkshire.

It happened shortly after 1.15pm yesterday (Sunday 2nd February) on Copley Lane in the Sherburn-in-Elmet area.

The collision involved a white BMW S1000RR motorcycle, ridden by a man in his 60s from the West Yorkshire area, a white Ford Fiesta and a blue Skoda Kamiq.

It is believed that the BMW motorcycle was travelling from Sherburn towards the B1217 Collier Lane in the same direction as the Ford Focus driven by a man in his thirties.

The Skoda Kamiq was travelling in the opposite direction, driven by a man in his thirties.

The bike rider suffered life-changing injuries and was flown to hospital by air ambulance and he remains in a serious condition.

The road had been closed until around 7pm to allow for a collision investigation team to carry out their enquiries and police say the drivers of the cars are assisting them.
