GNAAS landmarks illuminated to honour air ambulance work
Landmarks across the North of England and Isle of Man are set to be illuminated green as part of Air Ambulance Week 2026, celebrating the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) and its lifesaving efforts.
Taking place nationwide from 7th to 13th September 2026, the week is organised by Air Ambulances UK to raise awareness and funds.
This year's theme, 'Every Mission Starts With You', acknowledges supporters who contribute through donations, fundraising, or spreading awareness.
In areas operated by GNAAS, notable monuments and structures will be lit green, including Penshaw Monument and Gateshead Millennium Bridge in the North East.
Barnard Castle's fortress and Darlington's Town Hall are also set to be illuminated.
In Middlesbrough, prominent sites like the Bottle of Notes and Dorman Museum will join the initiative.
Cumbria's landmarks, such as the Sir John Barrow Monument and Carlisle Civic Centre, will participate as well.
On the Isle of Man, Ramsey Bridge and the Douglas city centre will be showcased.
Additionally, Tesco supermarkets on the Isle of Man and other businesses are encouraged to fundraise in support of GNAAS.

GNAAS relies entirely on donations, requiring £9.6 million annually to operate.
Their service spans more than 8,000 square miles, ensuring highly skilled teams reach critically ill or injured patients swiftly.
