Investigation into reports of arson in York

North Yorkshire Police say officers were called to reports of a bottle containing accelerant being thrown at a property

A fire at a shop in York is being treated as arson, according to North Yorkshire Police.

Officers say they were called at around 1.40am on Tuesday 20 May to reports a bottle containing accelerant had been thrown at the window of a property in Beckfield Lane.

The bottle landed in the street causing damage to the front of the premises.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service says it was called at 1.26am and found the window broken with the frame of a retail premises on fire.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: "An investigation is underway with extensive enquiries ongoing into what officers are treating as arson and criminal damage.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident, has any information, including passing motorists who may have dashcam footage, and anyone with private CCTV is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 and pass information to Force Control Room.
