Multi-agency searches along the River Greta near Ingleton have been stood down after two days of extensive efforts failed to uncover any further evidence following a report of a body seen in the water.

Emergency services launched a coordinated search operation on August 4 after a member of the public reported seeing a body in the fast-flowing river near Ingleton viaduct.

Police officers were joined by teams from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, the National Police Air Service, the Yorkshire and Humber Underwater Search Unit, and volunteer search and rescue organisations. The search extended from Ingleton towards the Lancashire border.

Crews also carried out detailed checks of local beauty spots, searched for abandoned vehicles, and investigated missing person reports across the region. However, no further information or evidence was found to corroborate the initial sighting.

Authorities have now officially called off the search, thanking all agencies involved for their swift and dedicated response.

Police said they are satisfied the report was made in good faith, and praised the individual who raised the alarm, stating, "They did the right thing in sharing their concerns."

Further searches may be resumed if new information emerges.
