Man arrested after firearms discharge in Barnsley
Police investigation underway following overnight incident on Smithies Lane
A 39-year-old man has been arrested following an overnight incident involving firearms in Barnsley.
Reports of shots fired on Smithies Lane were received at 10:08pm on Saturday, 29th August.
Although a man was threatened and a firearm discharged, fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Upon arrival, officers discovered evidence consistent with a firearms discharge.
An investigation promptly commenced, leading to the arrest in Harrogate, North Yorkshire on suspicion of firearms offences. The man remains in police custody pending inquiries.
Detective Inspector Joanne Chambers emphasised the grave risks associated with firearm incidents and reinforced the commitment to tackling gun crime.
DI Chambers said, "When a gun is fired the consequences can be devastating. Thankfully no one was injured as a result of this incident, but next time this might not be the case."
She appealed to the public for assistance, urging anyone with information to come forward.
