A 26-year-old man has been sentenced to 23 years for violently attacking and raping a woman in Chirk.

Admitting to nine offences, including four counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault, Jordan Jones, of South View, Chirk, was sentenced at Mold Crown Court today.

The court heard how Jones caused devastating internal injuries to the victim during the attack, threatening her life and subjecting her to ongoing abuse.

He was jailed for 18 years, with an additional five years added to his sentence under an extended license period.

Jones is now listed indefinitely on the sex offenders register and a lifelong restraining order has been issued to protect the victim.

The attack occurred in February when officers received a report of a distressed woman in Chirk.

Upon arrival, police found that the victim had been physically attacked, strangled, and dragged before being violently raped by Jones.

Jones was arrested near the scene and has been in custody since then.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable James Grimwood said: “This was a sustained attack by a truly despicable offender who inflicted brutal violence on the victim, leaving her with devastating physical injuries and emotional distress – for which he has shown no remorse.

“She has undergone trauma that no one should ever face and it is testament to her extraordinary courage that Jones will rightly serve a considerable amount of time in prison, where he can cause no further harm.

“I hope this outcome provides some measure of reassurance and closure, as she continues her recovery."

North Wales Police have reaffirmed their commitment to tackling violence against women and girls.
