A man with a history of theft offences has been jailed for stealing goods worth over £700 from shops in Norwich, despite being banned from entering them due to a Criminal Behaviour Order.

Robert Smith, aged 48 and of no fixed address, appeared at Norwich Magistrates' Court on 14th October 2026, where he pleaded guilty to 12 counts of shop theft and 12 counts of breaching his Criminal Behaviour Order.

Between 31st August and 9th October 2026, Smith stole items such as fish, sweets, cleaning supplies, and laundry products from several shops on Dereham Road, Woodgrove Parade, and Heyford Road.

The thefts were captured on CCTV, leading to Smith's identification by store staff and police.

Issued in December 2025, his Criminal Behaviour Order banned him from certain shops, including Co-op and Tesco, which he violated during his recent thefts.

Smith was arrested on 13th October 2026 on Dereham Road and later charged at Wymondham Police Investigation Centre.

At Norwich Magistrates' Court, Smith received a 26-week prison sentence and was ordered to pay a £154 victim surcharge.
