Jack Murphy, from Unthank Road, was sentenced at Norwich Magistrates Court after pleading guilty to carrying a knife in public, having a class B drug, and multiple driving offences - including no insurance, licence or MOT, and failing to stop for police.

He was also ordered to pay a one hundred and fifty four pound victim surcharge.

It follows an incident on Friday 13 March, when officers spotted Murphy riding a Surron electric motorbike illegally on Bignold Road without lights or registration, along with a sixteen year old passenger.

When approached at a petrol station, Murphy tried to escape on the bike, colliding with a police car before running off.

He was tasered after refusing to stop and reaching into his waistband, where officers found a two foot long machete.

The passenger was also detained and found with a machete. He was later sentenced to a nine month youth referral order and ordered to pay a twenty six pound victim surcharge.

Inspector Will Drummond from the Roads and Armed Policing Team said: “Carrying a knife puts everyone at risk — including the person holding it.

We’re out every day working to remove weapons like this from our streets. Our message is clear: there is no safe situation to carry a knife. We will continue to take action against those who do, and we urge young people to think twice before picking up a blade.”
