A 56-year-old man has been jailed after admitting a number of violent offences against his partner.
A spokesperson for Suffolk Police said:
"On Saturday December 7 2024 Michael Lindsay, of Cavell Road, Acle argued with his partner pushing her to the floor, punching her repeatedly in the head, and kicking her in the ribs and legs.
"He left the address on a pedal bike but later returned and was again verbally abusive and physically aggressive.
"In the second attack he grabbed her by the neck, punched her, and dragged her by her hair pulling a clump from her head.
"The police were called and he was arrested.
"He was subsequently charged with two counts of assault, one of intentional strangulation and one of resisting an officer.
"The victim suffered a number of injuries, which left her in pain and struggling to walk.
"Lindsay initially denied the charges but changed his plea to guilty at Norwich Crown Court on Tuesday 2 September 2025.
"He was sentenced to one year and three months for intentional strangulation, and one year and five months for each of the assaults to run concurrently.
"He was also given a five-year restraining order against the victim.
"No separate penalty was given for obstructing police."
In her statement the victim said: “We have endured this traumatic, frightening, nerve-wracking experience as a family and take pride in hoping that strength is not always about who can hit harder.”
PC Carol-Ann Noble said: “The assault against the woman was violent and sustained and she genuinely thought her life was at risk. The courage she has shown in standing up to her abuser and supporting this investigation has ensured that he is rightly behind bars.”
