A man who repeatedly abused NHS staff and rang one service around 100 times in a single day has been handed a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order.
Daniel Barnes, 65, of Cedar Court in Wymondham, appeared at Norwich Magistrates' Court on Wednesday 2nd September 2026.
He was charged with six offences relating to a series of incidents between 17th November 2025 and 4th January 2026.
What happened
During the most recent incident, on 4th January 2026, Barnes contacted an NHS service in Hellesdon around 100 times in a day and was verbally abusive to the call-taker.
He had previously been given a Community Protection Notice on 17th November 2025.
Its conditions were not to contact emergency services without a genuine reason, not to contact NHS services using offensive and obscene language, and not to make direct or indirect contact with neighbouring residents.
The court's decision
Barnes was given a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order for breaching the notice and for malicious communications, and was ordered to pay £410 in fees.
The order tells him not to contact emergency services without a genuine reason, not to use offensive or obscene language towards staff or call-takers, and not to behave in an antisocial manner likely to cause offence to anyone within Cedar Court.
PC Guy Slade from the South Norfolk Operational Partnership team said: "Nobody should be subjected to verbal abuse when they go to work, and Barnes has repeatedly shown disregard for NHS staff members with his actions.
"The Criminal Behaviour Order places clear restrictions on his behaviour and provides us with additional powers to take action should those restrictions be breached.
"We continue to take this misuse of emergency services seriously and work closely with our partner agencies to take action against inappropriate behaviour."
