A man has been charged with rape and sexual offences after being detained at the port of Dover.

Madalin Ilinca, a 34-year-old Romanian national living on Stafford Road in Great Yarmouth, was arrested following reports that two teenage girls were raped on South Beach, Great Yarmouth on 16th May.

Ilinca, who was taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning, has been charged with one count of rape, one count of sexual assault by penetration, and one count of sexual assault.

He is scheduled to appear at Norwich Magistrates’ Court today (Monday 8th June).

Another man, also in his 30s, was arrested on suspicion of rape in Northamptonshire on 17th May in connection to the same incident.

He remains on police bail until 10th August 2026 while inquiries continue.
