Jake Austin jailed after filming women without their knowledge in Norwich
The 31-year-old was convicted of voyeurism and upskirting offences
Jake Austin, a 31-year-old from Norwich, has been sentenced to 31 months in prison for filming women without their knowledge through their windows and up their skirts.
Austin was sentenced at Norwich Crown Court on Wednesday, 22nd July after he admitted to five counts of voyeurism, three counts of upskirting, and three counts of making indecent images of children.
The offences began in March 2024 when a woman in Norwich reported to police that she had seen Austin on CCTV footage peering through her ground-floor bedroom window.
Detectives arrested Austin nearby and seized his mobile phone and electronic devices, which contained hours of voyeuristic videos.
The investigation revealed videos of women dressing and undressing in their homes and upskirting videos recorded in supermarkets and pubs.
Detectives identified six victims from the videos, but some remain unidentified.
Austin's computer also contained indecent images of children.
Alongside his 31-month imprisonment, Austin has been placed on the sex offenders register for life and issued with a 10-year sexual harm prevention order.
Victims shared statements in court expressing the impact of Austin's offences.
One woman described feeling "much more guarded around strangers" following a "significant violation of privacy."
Another felt "disturbed" that Austin filmed her without her knowledge, while a third expressed anxiety after learning she was filmed while breastfeeding her daughter.
Detective Constable Matthew Hubbard, the investigating officer, commented on the severity of Austin's actions.
"Austin's offending represented a serious and sustained pattern of predatory behaviour," Hubbard said.
"He violated their privacy and I know that these crimes have had a profound impact on them."
Hubbard thanked the victims for their courage in coming forward and encouraged others who witness or experience such behaviour to report it to the police.
"We would always encourage anyone who witnesses or experiences this kind of behaviour to report it to police," Hubbard added.
