A woman in her 30s is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a vehicle in Blyth, Northumberland.

The incident occurred on Keelmans Terrace near the junction with Beaumont Street at 1.25am on Friday, 12th June.

Two women were struck by a vehicle that then fled the scene.

While one woman suffered serious injuries, the other was left with non-serious injuries.

Northumbria Police have launched an investigation and have arrested a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of attempted murder.

He has been released on police bail as enquiries continue.

Detective Chief Inspector Graeme Barr from Northumbria Police's Major Investigation Team (MIT) said those involved are believed to know each other.

Detectives are asking for witnesses, particularly anyone with doorbell CCTV or dash cam footage, to come forward.

They are interested in information about a small, dark coloured sports utility vehicle (SUV) seen between 1am and 1.30am near Keelmans Terrace.

Further insights suggest the victims may have been involved in an earlier altercation on or near Stephen Street with the SUV’s occupants shortly before the incident.

Those with information are urged to contact police via direct message on social media, the live chat or report function on the Force’s website, or by calling 101, quoting reference number NP-20260612-0056.
