Two arrested after attempted motorbike robbery in Newcastle
Brave intervention by locals helps detain suspects
Northumbria Police have arrested two men following an attempted robbery involving a Sur-Ron motorbike at the Gate in Newcastle.
The incident occurred shortly before 1 am when reports were received of two individuals using bolt cutters in an attempt to steal a motorbike from a car park.
As the suspects tried to exit onto Stowell Street with the vehicle, they were confronted by two men, resulting in an altercation.
The suspects allegedly assaulted the men, but were subsequently chased and detained until police arrived.
Officers swiftly reached the scene, arresting two men, aged 19 and 21, and confiscating a knife found in one suspect's possession.
The stolen motorbike was safely returned to its owner, while the apprehended suspects remain in custody.
The two men who intervened sustained minor injuries and received treatment at a hospital.
Northumbria Police praised their courage and reiterated their zero-tolerance policy towards theft and violence in the community.
