Teenager dies in motorbike collision in Morpeth
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a teenager died following a collision in Northumberland.
An investigation is underway, after a 16 year old boy's died in a motorbike crash in Northumberland.
At around 6.40pm yesterday (Monday), police received a report of a two-vehicle collision on the A196 near Stobhill in Morpeth – directly opposite with the junction of Bowyer Way (A196).
It was reported that a black Yamaha motorcycle and a grey Volkswagen Polo have both been travelling in a north easterly direction away from the Morpeth area when they have collided.
One of people travelling on the Yamaha – a 16-year-old boy – sadly died at the scene. The second person travelling on the Yamaha – a 24-year-old man – was taken to hospital where he remains for the treatment of serious injuries.
Both the boy and the man’s next of kin have been made aware and are being supported by officers.
The driver of the VW – a woman in her 40s – remained at the scene to assist officers with their enquiries.
Officers are now appealing for witnesses and are especially keen to hear from anyone with CCTV, dash cam, or doorbell footage and those who may have witnessed the motorcycle prior to the collision occurring in the Morpeth area.
Sergeant Steven Chappell, of the Force’s Roads Policing Unit (RPU), said: “Our thoughts are firmly with the family of the two people who have been injured or died in this incident – and we’ll provide them with whatever support they need.
“We are carrying out a full investigation into the circumstances of the collision and have already undertaken several enquiries.
“I would ask anyone with information which could assist us to get in touch.
“We are particularly keen to hear from those who may have seen or have footage of the events leading up to the collision.”
