Police name woman killed in hit and run in Sunderland on Valentines Day

A woman who died in a hit and run in Sunderland on Valentines day has been named by police, as a man is charged with several driving offences.
Shortly before 11pm on Saturday, February 14, it was reported a female pedestrian was struck by a black Volvo XC90 on the A690 Durham Road in Farringdon, near to Arbroath Road.
The woman – who can now be identified as 59-year-old Diane Jones from the Thorney Close area of Sunderland – passed away at the scene.
Specially trained officers from Northumbria Police continue to support her loved ones at this difficult time.
Sergeant Greg Huntley, of the Force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “I can’t begin to imagine the pain that Diane’s loved ones are experiencing – as they process this devastating loss.
“We will do all we can to support them, as we seek answers following the collision.
“We’re very grateful to those who have come forward to support our investigation to date.”
Sgt Huntley added: “A man has since been charged in connection with the collision, so we’d urge everyone to respect the legal proceedings and avoid any speculation.

27 year old Reece Roberts from Pallion, is charged with multiple offences, including causing death by dangerous driving.
