A woman in her 50's died on Saturday night
A woman in her 50s has died following a hit-and-run crash on Durham Road in the Farringdon area of Sunderland.
The tragic event occurred shortly before 11pm on Saturday when the woman was crossing the road and was struck by a dark-coloured 4x4 vehicle travelling easterly.
The driver fled the scene, leaving emergency services to respond, and the woman was pronounced dead.
Her family has been notified and is receiving support from trained officers.
Durham Road was temporarily closed for investigations but has since reopened.
Northumbria Police's Roads Policing Unit is conducting an investigation and is looking for the driver and any additional witnesses.
Sgt. Steven Chappell is encouraging those who were on Durham Road at the time to provide any dashcam or CCTV footage and express any relevant concerns to the officers patrolling the area this weekend.
