Two men arrested as officers execute warrant in the Ryhope area
Officers in Sunderland have seized more than 800 cannabis plants from a property in Ryhope.
The discovery was made after a warrant was carried out on Ryhope Street South on 10th June.
During the search, officers uncovered approximately 814 cannabis plants in different stages of growth.
The estimated wholesale value of the cannabis plants and associated equipment ranges from £44,000 to £167,500.
Two men, aged 31 and 38, were apprehended while trying to escape from the scene and arrested on suspicion of production of cannabis.
They have been released on bail as further investigations continue.
Sunderland’s Neighbourhood Policing Team, in collaboration with the local council, secured a closure order on the property on 26th June for a minimum of three months to curb further illegal activities.
This action forms part of wider efforts to address drug-related crimes and their impact on local neighbourhoods.
Sergeant Craig Sheriff from Sunderland Neighbourhood Policing Team expressed hope that this latest operation sends a strong message against drug-related activities.
“We hope this provides reassurance to the public that we are listening to their concerns and taking action,” Sergeant Sheriff said.
Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Enforcement for Sunderland City Council, Cllr Bill Blackett, emphasized the importance of community safety and the partnership with Northumbria Police.
