County Durham politics expert explains what is next for Labour
It is a week on since Sir Keir Starmer resigned as Prime Minister
A County Durham politics expert tells us what is next for Labour, a week on since Sir Keir Starmer resigned as Prime Minister of the UK.
He believes they need to draw on the wider talent of the political party to try and get things right.
Thom Brooks, Professor of Law, Ethics and Government at Durham University, said: "They need to expand things out, bring people in, new people, some new ideas, refreshed, new look in different positions.
"I think that will help sell both the image and also, more importantly, the substance of what they might deliver.
"If they are going to try and fix the mess they're in at the moment, it’s to draw on the talent, the wider talent that they have in the party, to try to get things right.
"They need to be bringing people together. They need to be distilling the best ideas under kind of a shared vision of change and reform for the country. I think that's what needs to happen.
"I suspect there'll be an awful lot of shuffling around so that the public can see that there's a new leader in town with a new team around them.
"The idea that I think they're going to really want to promote is that this is Labour’s second chance."
