Police appeal for witnesses after suspected hit-and-run in North Tyneside

Woman critically injured in collision on A19 in Holystone.

Police are investigating a suspected hit-and-run collision on the A19 in Holystone, North Tyneside, which has left a woman in her 30s critically injured.

The collision involved a Volkswagen T-roc and a Skoda Fabia at around 10.40pm on Friday 5th December 2025.

Officers believe the Volkswagen T-roc overtook a stationary vehicle on the side of the road before colliding with the Skoda Fabia, whose driver failed to stop at the scene.

Emergency services attended, and the woman driving the Volkswagen T-roc was taken to hospital with serious injuries. She remains in a critical condition.

Arrests and road closure

Subsequent enquiries led to the arrest of two men, aged in their 20s and 30s, on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Both are currently in police custody.

Northbound lanes of the A19 remain closed to allow police to carry out their investigation.

Police appeal for information

The Force’s Roads Policing team is appealing for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage of the moments leading up to or following the incident to assist their enquiries.
