With just days to go until the Tyne-Wear derby, NX is stepping up preparations for what is set to be one of the biggest indoor fanzones the city has seen, ordering a record 7.5 tonnes of beer to meet demand for Sunday’s clash.

Newcastle United host Sunderland at St James’ Park on Sunday 22 March, and for fans without match tickets, NX’s city centre fanzone is shaping up to be the place to be - with final tickets now on sale from £12 plus booking fee, doors opening at 10 am.

Building on the success of previous sold-out events, NX is promising a full matchday experience with a packed entertainment line-up designed to recreate the electric atmosphere of a derby day inside the ground.

Leading the build-up is DJ Danger Danny Routledge, a specialist in football anthems who has performed at major fanzones across the UK, including World Cup takeovers at Boxpark venues in London. He’ll be soundtracking the day with wall-to-wall classics to get the crowd in full voice ahead of kick-off.

Adding to the spectacle is internationally renowned live performer Davey Sax, widely regarded as one of the world’s leading live saxophonists, bringing a high-energy twist to the pre-match atmosphere.

Fans can also expect a live set from the UK’s number one Britpop tribute act, delivering era-defining hits to keep the crowd bouncing from doors open through to kick-off.

Hosting the day is Newcastle United YouTuber Matty Eltringham, whose popular Black and White Banter channel has built a strong following among fans, ensuring the event stays firmly rooted in supporter culture.

NX will open its doors at 10am ahead of the 12 noon kick-off, with the match shown live on a giant screen, alongside crowd displays, fan chants and a packed schedule of entertainment throughout the day.

Luke Rushfirth, Venue Manager at NX, said: “The response to this has been huge. We’ve seen phenomenal demand again, which is why we’ve gone big - from the entertainment line-up right through to ordering a record 7.5 tonnes of beer to keep fans going throughout the day. Derby days in Newcastle are always special, and we’re ready to deliver another unforgettable atmosphere for supporters in the city.”

With bragging rights on the line and one of football’s fiercest rivalries set to play out once again, organisers are expecting a capacity crowd as fans gather to watch the action together in the heart of Newcastle.

Final tickets are on sale now.
