Over 800 vehicles seized by Northumbria Police during crackdown
Officers and partner groups target illegal e-scooter and bike use
Northumbria Police has seized more than 800 vehicles in an ongoing crackdown on illegal e-scooter and bike use across the region.
Since August 2025, the operation has targeted e-scooters, e-bikes, off-road motorcycles, and quadbikes being used unlawfully. The seized vehicles include 207 e-scooters, 463 e-bikes, 83 off-road motorcycles, and 48 quadbikes.
Chief Inspector Dean Hood highlighted motorcycle disorder and illegal e-scooter and bike use as significant concerns for local communities.
Dean Hood said, "We recognise motorcycle disorder and the illegal use of e-scooters and bikes are pressing matters for the communities we serve. We are committed as a Force to tackling this issue and will continue to work with partners to put a stop to this behaviour."
Vehicles were confiscated for offences such as riding without a licence or insurance, riding at excessive speeds on pavements, and causing public distress.
Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner, Susan Dungworth, added, “I know the illegal use of e-scooters and bikes is a real concern for many of our communities.”
