A man has been charged in connection with the death of North Tyneside woman Lisa Denton.

Shortly after 10pm on Saturday, officers received a report of concern for the welfare of a woman on Russell Street in the North Shields area.

It was reported that an altercation had taken place between two people, where as a result, a woman sustained a serious head injury.

Emergency services attended and the woman – who can now be named as 40-year-old Lisa Denton from the North Shields area of North Tyneside – was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Despite the efforts of medical staff, Lisa died the following morning.

An investigation was immediately launched by the Force’s Major Investigation Team to determine the circumstances around Lisa’s death.

As a result, a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Today, Liam Moor, 19, of Telford Street in the East Howdon area has been charged with one count of manslaughter and has been remanded in custody to appear before Bedlington Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.

A woman, aged in her 50s, was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender – she has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector, Mark Atherton, said: “This is an incredibly tragic incident where a woman has sadly lost her life.

“Our thoughts remain firmly with Lisa’s loved ones at this time. We will continue to support them as they try to navigate a life without Lisa.”

He added: “With proceedings now active, we would ask that the public avoid speculation, both online and in the community, and respect the ongoing legal process.”
