North East Mayor tells us what she wants for the future
Following on from the fallout yesterday with Labour MPs and cabinet ministers urging Prime Minister Keir Starmer to resign, the North East Mayor tells us what she wants for the future.
Kim McGuinness says we need to see direct action in combatting poverty.
It is amid the ongoing cost-of-living crisis and high prices due to the conflict in the Middle East impacting families across the North East.
Kim McGuinness, North East Mayor, said: "Their biggest concern is the cost-of-living crisis and we need to see direct action on that.
"In the North East, that's what we're doing.
"We're capping our bus fares, we've brought our metro fares down, we're taking direct action to help people reduce their energy bills, creating jobs and supporting people the best we can to fight poverty and to tackle that cost-of-living crisis that too many people are experiencing."
She continued to say: "Now I'd like to see more power devolved to us in the region so that people can have more of a say over their own future.
"That has to be part of the urgent response that we need to see."
