It's been confirmed that Howaymanay, a New Year's Eve party, is returning to Newcastle's Quayside this year.

The ticketed event takes place on Thursday 31st December 2026, with live music, street entertainment, bars, food and a midnight firework display.

Howaymanay is part of Newcastle's Christmas, delivered and funded by Newcastle City Council and Newcastle NE1.

What is planned on the night

From 8.30pm, the Quayside will become a ticket-only event with two stages of live music, roaming performers, street entertainment, bars and food operators.

The main event runs until 12.15am.

As 2026 comes to an end, a firework display will light up the Newcastle skyline to welcome in 2027.

Organisers said thousands came to the Quayside for last year's inaugural event, which sold out in mid-December.

Free family fireworks at 6pm

A free family-friendly fireworks display will be held at 6pm for those who would rather celebrate earlier in the evening.

Cllr Rob Austin, Cabinet Member for Culture, Communities and Youth Services at Newcastle City Council, said: "It's also important that families can be part of the celebrations, which is why we're pleased to be keeping the free 6pm fireworks, giving families the chance to enjoy a spectacular New Year's Eve celebration together earlier in the evening."

Tickets and entry

Tickets cost £8 plus a booking fee, and capacity is limited.

The ticketed event is suitable for ages eight and over. Under-16s must be accompanied by an adult.

There will be three entrances - at Sandhill/Guildhall, King Street and East Quayside/Millennium Bridge.

Visitors will need to enter through the entrance they selected when booking.

With last year's event selling out in mid-December, people are being encouraged to book early.

Tickets are on sale now, with full event details and booking information available via TicketTailor.
