This week is National School Sports Week, we all know how important movement, sport & well being is for children and young people. Sporting Wallsend decided to bring together a number of sporting groups and organisation that work with young people across Wallsend to form WASP- Wallsend Active Schools Partnership.

The idea was simple- put on the biggest sports day in the North East for Year 6 pupils that attend schools in North Tyneside. Months of planning lead to the ultimate sports which saw eight schools attending bringing along with the 280 kids- now thats a BIG sports day!

Activities were provided by Wallsend Rugby, Wallsend Football Club, Cricketqube , Power Through Sport and Hellcats cheerleading. There was also support from Wallsend Children Community.

The event allows WASP to showcase what they can provide for the students in the hope that some of the schools attending would get them in come September to provide sporting activities at breakfast clubs and afterschool clubs.

When asked what they thought of the day one of the Year 6 students said:

'Its been the best day EVER- can I come back tomorrow and do it all again!'
