Police say a body of a man has been found in the search for a missing Gateshead man.
John, aged 20, was reported missing on September 2 after last being seen in Newcastle.
Extensive enquiries were carried out by Northumbria Police to locate John, including a review of local CCTV, release of footage and public appeals.
Yesterday shortly after 11.10am, a body matching John’s description was found in the River Tyne near Newcastle Quayside.
Formal identification is yet to take place but John’s next of kin have been notified. They are being supported by officers.
Detective Inspector Nick Went, of the Force’s Missing Investigation Team, said: “This is an extremely sad development, and our thoughts are with John’s family and friends.
“I would like to thank all of the officers involved in our investigation to locate John, along with everyone who shared our appeals and contacted us with information. It is much appreciated.
“We would continue to ask that people respect the family’s privacy at this tragic time.
“As is standard practice, a report into John’s death will now be prepared for the coroner.”
