Families of murdered and neglected children across the North East and Teesside are coming together tomorrow to remember them.

A charity football match has been organised by the loved ones of two year-old Maya Chappell who was killed by her mum's partner in 2022 in County Durham.

They're raising money for the children's hospital at the RVI in Newcastle.

It will be held at Consett Football Club tomorrow (Sunday 6th September) with a meeting time of 1.30pm with kick off at 2pm.

Gemma Chappell, Maya's great-aunt, said: "These are not professional people but these are males who want to come in and play for Maya, in memory of Maya, and all of the children as well because we'll always remember them when we're doing stuff with Maya but also for James, because as we know James's voice wasn't heard and we're still trying to get that heard.

"There's a lot of things that they the RVI need for families that are in the worst time of their life watching their children in that bed, and it takes me back to when we spent three days with Maya in that bed having to watch her fight for her life with tubes in her."
