Man in critical condition after car crashes into Sunderland building

A man in his twenties is in a critical condition after a car crashed into the front of a building in Sunderland.
It happened just after 5am on Chester Road, close to the junction with Kayll Road, on Saturday morning.
Northumbria Police said: "Officers are appealing for witnesses following a collision in Sunderland which has left a man with serious injuries.
"Just after 5am yesterday (Saturday), we received a report that, for reasons yet to be established, a blue Volkswagen T-Roc had collided with the front of a property on Chester Road, near the junction with Kayll Road.
"Emergency services attended and the passenger of the car - a man in his 20s - was found to have sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
"The driver of the vehicle – a man in his 20s – was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has been bailed pending further investigation."
A section of Chester Road was closed for several hours - but it has since fully reopened.
Officers appealing for anyone who saw the blue Volkswagen T-Roc being driven in Sunderland before the collision to come forward.
