Man charged with manslaughter after death at pub on Christmas Eve in Willington

A man has been charged with manslaughter following the death of another man on Christmas Eve in Willington.

Emergency services were called to The Queen’s Head pub in Willington just after 4.45pm on 24th December following reports that a man was unconscious inside.

Despite efforts from paramedics, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

His family has been informed and is being supported by specialist officers from Durham Constabulary.

In connection with the incident, a man was arrested on Christmas Day on suspicion of murder.

Durham Constabulary has confirmed that 36-year-old Martin Ian Greensmith, of Crook, has now been charged with manslaughter. He has been remanded in custody and is expected to appear at Teesside Magistrates’ Court on 27th December.

Detectives are continuing their enquiries and have urged anyone with information to come forward.
