This week, Gateshead will welcome a brand-new Hickory’s Smokehouse, featuring an array of Southern-style delicacies and experiences.

Opening on Friday, 5th June at Chowdene Bank, Low Fell, the restaurant promises to deliver a true taste of the Southern States with slow-smoked barbecue and warm hospitality.

Hickory’s has cultivated a significant following, with its Gateshead Facebook page amassing nearly 10,000 followers before even opening its doors.

The smokehouse is celebrated for its “low ‘n’ slow” barbecue, offering dishes such as 16-hour smoked Texas brisket and Memphis-style ribs.

Along with gourmet feasts, the venue will provide brunches, cocktails, sports screenings, and family movie nights, aiming to become a neighbourhood hub.

Key features include the signature Chef’s Bar, a Sportsbook viewing area, outdoor terrace, family dining spaces, movie room, and children's menus.

Hickory’s Managing Director, John Walsh, expressed enthusiasm about the Gateshead opening, citing a positive reception from their Thornaby location in the North East.

John emphasised the brand's commitment beyond food, focusing on hospitality and creating spaces that guests will want to revisit.

The opening is also a significant employment opportunity, with Hickory’s hiring a large local team and providing extensive training in its hospitality-focused culture.

Inside the restaurant, authentic smokers from Tennessee and Missouri will cook meats low and slow daily, while the menu will also feature burgers, salads, mac ‘n’ cheese, brunch dishes, and a variety of drinks and desserts.

Music and entertainment will add to the lively atmosphere throughout the week, appealing to diners from Newcastle and Gateshead, especially for group celebrations, sport viewing occasions such as the World Cup, and NFL season happenings.

John added, “Whether for a drink, meal, celebration, or sport event, we want people to feel at home here.”

With the opening just around the corner, the new Hickory’s Smokehouse Gateshead will be ready to serve guests seven days a week from the 5th June onwards.
