Police investigate reports of disorder after Cramlington vigil
Investigations are underway, into reports of disorder at a vigil in Cramlington yesterday, which saw fireworks thrown at police and a car set on fire
Four electric motorbikes have been seized and an investigation launched after reports of disorder linked to a vigil in Northumberland following the death of a 16-year-old boy in a road traffic collision.
At about 4pm yesterday, police received reports of anti-social behaviour in the Beaconhill Grange area of Cramlington.
A number of those who attended were on electric motorbikes, motorcycles, and quad bikes, and officers saw a spike in anti-social behaviour reports in the area both before and after a planned balloon release.
Police also received reports that one vehicle was set on fire and fireworks were thrown at officers.
No-one was reported to have been injured in the disorder.
Police deployed a number of units in response to the reports including a specialist drone team.
Four Sur-Ron electric bikes were subsequently seized and officers issued warnings around vehicles being used to cause anti-social behaviour.
Superintendent Michelle Robson, of Northumbria Police, said: “We understand that people will want to come together to remember those who have died, and we ask that they do so safely, respectfully and within the law.
"Where such events are used as an opportunity to carry out offences, we are committed to taking action against those responsible.
"We are conducting a thorough investigation to identify those involved in the unacceptable behaviour."
