A 12 year old's been left in a critical condition in hospital, after being hit by a car in Sunderland.

At 6.50pm on Tuesday, August 11, police received a report of a collision on Doxford Park Way in the Doxford Park area.

It was reported that a 12-year-old boy was crossing the road outside Morrisons supermarket and while on the westbound carriageway he was struck by a white Vauxhall Mokka car.

Emergency services attended the scene and the boy was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries. He remains in hospital in a critical condition.

The driver of the Vauxhall – a woman in her 40s – remained at the scene to assist officers with their enquiries following the incident.

Officers are investigating the collision and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them.

They are particularly keen to hear from anyone with dashcam footage of the moments leading up to the boy being struck by the vehicle.
