Brenda Blethyn revealed as next guest for Desert Island Flicks in Newcastle
BAFTA-winning actress to share film favourites in sell-out series

Brenda Blethyn, the BAFTA and Golden Globe-winning actress, will be the next guest at the popular Desert Island Flicks event at Tyneside Cinema.
Known for her memorable roles in Vera, Secrets & Lies, and Pride & Prejudice, Blethyn will be joining host Dave Johns on the 27th of July.
She will discuss the films that have shaped her life and career, as the live series celebrates its first year of sell-out success.
Desert Island Flicks has welcomed over 850 audience members across four shows since its launch in summer 2025.
Previous guests include James Purefoy, Stewart Lee, Bill Bailey and Christopher Eccleston.
The format, blending film clips, personal stories, and audience interaction has made it one of Tyneside Cinema’s most popular events.
Dave Johns, known for his role in I, Daniel Blake, said, "Brenda’s career has touched many people. She's funny, warm, honest, and a brilliant storyteller."
Brenda Blethyn expressed her enthusiasm for the event, saying she looks forward to sharing stories and cinematic favourites.
Nic Greenan, Chief Executive of Tyneside Cinema, stated that the success of the first year has exceeded expectations, demonstrating a strong appetite in the North East for such live experiences.
Desert Island Flicks also supports young people from working-class backgrounds through Tyneside Cinema's Talent Unit.
This initiative is funded by the Sir Graham Wylie Foundation, aiming to create opportunities in film and television careers.
