Tributes have been paid to Simon Cox, a 50-year-old grandfather, who died following a collision on Front Street in Annitsford last month.

The incident, which occurred at 9.25pm on Saturday, 9th May, involved a red Kia Niro that overturned after colliding with two parked vehicles.

Northumbria Police reported the driver, Simon Cox, suffered a suspected medical episode, which led to the crash.

Emergency services arrived at the scene, and Cox was taken to hospital with serious injuries but died shortly afterward.

A full investigation into the collision has been launched by Northumbria Police, who are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Simon Cox's family described him as a "kind-hearted" man who worked as a commissioning manager in healthcare.

Cox was known for his dedication as a Jehovah’s Witness and was devoted to caring for his elderly mother after his father’s death.

He was a passionate Newcastle United supporter, holding a season ticket and rarely missing a game.

His family fondly recalled his love for the Lake District, particularly the Dog and Gun pub in Keswick, where he enjoyed a pint with his father.

His grandchildren, aged three, five, and seven, were described as his best friends, and they will dearly miss him.

Sergeant Craig Bartle from Northumbria Police's Roads Policing Unit expressed condolences to Simon's family and urged anyone with information relating to the collision to come forward.

He asked those with knowledge or dash cam footage of the moments before the crash to contact Northumbria Police through social media or the force's website.

Individuals unable to use these methods can call 101, quoting reference number: NP-20260509-1033.
