Police arrest man on suspicion of dangerous driving

Greater Manchester Police are seeking information following a fatal collision involving a car and a bicycle on Westwood Way, Wigan.

The incident occurred shortly after 10:30pm yesterday (7th May).

The cyclist, a man in his 30s, was reportedly crossing the A49 when the crash happened.

Despite efforts from emergency services, he sadly passed away at the scene.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is currently in custody for questioning.

In response, a section of Westwood Way has been closed to traffic this morning.

Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have dashcam or mobile footage.
