The University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University have been recognised for their outstanding contributions to higher education.

In the 2027 league table compiled by the Times and the Sunday Times, the University of Manchester rose to 23rd best in the country, four places up from last year.

They were also named University of the Year in the Northwest.

We've approached the University of Manchester for a comment.

Manchester Metropolitan University stayed at 38th on the league table, and received the accolade of Modern University of the Year, along with being named as University of the Year for Scholarships and Bursaries.

Malcolm Press, Vice Chancellor at MMU, said: "We're really excited at Manchester Met that we've been named as the Modern University of the Year for 2027 by the Times and Sunday Times, and really delighted that this falls on the back of winning the award last year.

"This is a tremendous recognition of the amazing work that colleagues do across the university, supporting our students, creating a brilliant campus, doing research that's relevant to the challenges the world faces and applying it for the benefit of communities and the economy.

"It's just great to have our efforts recognised in this way."

Mr Press said he is "incredibly proud" of everything the university achieves.

He said: "We employ over 5,000 people, and it's the efforts of every single individual that collectively create a culture which is ambitious, forward-looking and determined to do our best for our students and our researchers."
