Tributes paid to 50-year-old man who died after early morning crash

Two men have been charged following a crash on Kingsway in Manchester in which a 50-year-old man died.

Sylvester Abayomi sustained serious injuries after a crash involving two vehicles shortly after 4.30am on Monday 9th March 2026 at the junction of Green End Road and Kingsway.

The 50-year-old was taken to hospital but later died from his injuries.

His family are being supported by specialist officers.

Charges brought

Uways Hussain, a 20-year-old from Burnage, Manchester, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, causing death by driving a vehicle whilst uninsured, conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, failing to provide a specimen for analysis and driving without insurance.

Usmon Mahmood, a 23-year-old from Levenshulme, Manchester, has been charged with aid and abet causing death by dangerous driving, aid and abet causing death by driving a vehicle whilst uninsured and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

Both men have been remanded in custody ahead of their next appearance at Stockport Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 12th March 2026.

Tribute paid

Paying tribute, his partner Denise said: “On Monday 9th March, the love of my life was taken away, he was the most caring soul and gentle person you could ever meet.

He had time for everybody and is loved by everyone. Syll will be sadly missed.”
