Two dead after car smashes into digger on busy Gorton road

A man and a woman have died in a crash between a car and a stationary digger on a busy road in Gorton.

Emergency services were called to Hyde Road at around 21:35BST on Thursday night (05 August).

Four people were inside the car, two of whom – a man a woman – sadly died at the scene.

Two men were seriously injured and were taken to hospital for treatment.

The two injured men were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

They remain in police custody.

Detective Sergeant Louise Warhurst, of our Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victims in this tragic incident.

“We are appealing for any witnesses who may have saw the moments leading up to this incident, or anyone who has mobile phone, Ring doorbell or dash cam footage, to come forward and assist our investigation."
