Tributes have been paid to the headteacher of Stretford Grammar School, who has died after being knocked off his bike by a car.

The collision occurred on Paddock Lane in Altrincham at around 6:10pm - the car involved didn't stop at the scene.

Despite efforts to treat him at the scene, 56 year old Michael Mullins, from Weaverham, Northwich, succumbed to his injuries.

His grieving family has paid tribute to him, describing him as a "loving Dad, husband, Brother-in-law, ‘Diddy’, Uncle, Son in law," and a devoted headteacher at Stretford Grammar School.

In a heartfelt tribute, they shared:

"Our loving Dad, husband, Brother-in-law, ‘Diddy’, Uncle, Son in law, passed away last night after being knocked off his bike.

He was devoted to his family, and our lives will never be the same. A gap has been left in our hearts and within his role as a headteacher of Stretford Grammar school.

Our Dad gave us fantastic memories growing up including a trip getting lost at night around Washington D.C but it was in his role as a Grandad where he truly excelled.

Our love and memories of Michael will know no limits.

We will love him forever, to Saturn and beyond."

The family has requested privacy during this difficult time.

Following the collision, police are actively investigating the case after the driver involved failed to stop at the scene.

In connection with the incident, four people have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Three men and one woman are currently in custody as questioning continues.

Officers are asking for any information or dashcam footage that could aid their investigation.

Anyone who can assist is encouraged to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741, quoting incident number 2771 of 20th April 2026.
