The acting headteacher of Stretford Grammar School has paid tribute to her predecessor, Michael Mullins, who was murdered earlier this year.
Simon Richardson, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 25 years at Manchester Minshull Street Court, having been found guilty of murder.
Michael Mullins was cycling home from his job on 20th April when he was fatally struck by a car driven by Richardson, who failed to stop at a sign and collided with Mullins before driving off.
During the trial, Acting Headteacher Liz Baxter said: "He was an inspirational leader informed by a moral imperative to improve students’ life chances through the best possible education."
Michael’s family also shared moving statements in court, reflecting on his passion for teaching and his devotion to family and friends.
Detective Chief Inspector Louise Edwards, the Senior Investigating Officer, noted Richardson "will have to live with the consequences of his actions for the rest of his life."
Richardson was also handed a lifetime driving ban as part of his sentence.
The impact of Mullins' loss continues to be felt deeply across the community, with tributes highlighting his kind heart, warm nature, and unwavering commitment to his loved ones and school.
