Stockport police operation leads to arrests, vehicle and firearm seizures
Operation Rimini focuses on tackling crime and anti-social behaviour
Stockport police have made notable strides in combating crime and anti-social behaviour during two days of targeted action across the borough. Operation Rimini resulted in multiple arrests, seizures of illegal vehicles and firearms, and the safeguarding of a missing child.
Operation Rimini achievements
On Tuesday, 28th April, officers flooded Stockport town centre for a high-visibility engagement day, involving various resources such as bike, motorcycle, and mounted units, along with partner collaborations.
Throughout the day, officers made four arrests for offences like shoplifting, possession of Class B drugs, and recall to prison. They also carried out seven stop and searches and intervened in traffic-related matters.
A high-risk missing child was located at Stockport Interchange and safely returned to their family due to multi-team coordination efforts.
Inspector Jason Holmwood praised the operation's effectiveness: “The results of the past two days demonstrate the impact of focussed, intelligence-led policing and high visibility patrols across Stockport.”
Warrants and broader enforcement
In the same period, firearms, ammunition, and a crossbow were recovered in North Reddish following a warranted search. A man in his 50s was arrested under the Firearms Act and bailed pending further enquiries.
Officers conducted three searches in Woodley, resulting in drug recoveries and seizure of an illegal off-road motorbike, addressing community concerns over drug activity and anti-social behaviour.
Community engagement
Operation Rimini, now in its third year, continues to underscore the value of proactive policing. The Stockport East Neighbourhood Policing Team has executed seven warrants, seizing over 100 wraps of crack cocaine and heroin.
Residents are urged to report criminal activity to their local policing team, or anonymously through Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
Stockport Police remain committed to protecting vulnerable residents, disrupting illegal activities, and ensuring community safety.
