Second arrest made in suspected arson attack in Bury

A man in his 40s has been arrested in connection to the fire on South Terrace

A second man has been arrested in connection with an investigation into a suspected arson attack at a property in Bury.

Emergency services were called to reports of a fire on South Terrace at around 2am last Sunday. Fortunately, nobody inside the house was injured.

Following a joint investigation between officers from Greater Manchester Police’s Bury district and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, a man in his 40s was arrested othis morning on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

This arrest comes after another man, also in his 40s, was arrested yesterday on suspicion of the same charge. Both men are currently in custody for questioning.

Investigators ask for information

Chief Inspector Andy Wright from Greater Manchester Police said: “Our investigations have led us to arrest a second suspect in relation to this incident.

“We have been working hard to establish the full facts, we are continuing to keep an open mind but want to reassure the community of Bury that we will leave no stone unturned.

“If anyone has any information about this incident, please come forward. This includes anyone who witnessed the incident or has any CCTV/dashcam footage.
