A registered sex offender has been arrested after allegedly volunteering at a primary school Christmas fair in Warrington.

At 7.10pm on Tuesday 23rd December, police received a report from a member of the public who claimed to have seen the man helping with the Christmas grotto.

According to the report, the 28-year-old was handing out presents to children.

Police arrested the suspect at around 3am on Wednesday 24th December on suspicion of breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

Detective Chief Inspector Robert Pritchard from the Sex Offender Management Unit said:

ā€œWhile there have been no reports of any children being harmed, the fact is that the suspect should not have been at the event.

ā€œAs a registered sex offender, he is aware of his conditions, yet on this occasion he appears to have ignored them.

ā€œThankfully, as a result of the information provided by the public, he has quickly been arrested and will now be held accountable for his actions.ā€

Police are urging anyone with concerns relating to the incident to contact Cheshire police on 101 or via www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us , quoting IML 2239400.
