Power outage causes major disruption across CrossCountry train network
Passengers urged to check travel plans and claim compensation
Last updated 1 hour ago
Passengers travelling with CrossCountry on Sunday, 23rd August should prepare for widespread disruption due to a power outage affecting the train operator's control centre in Birmingham.
The outage, which started on Saturday, has impaired many crucial systems used to manage train services across the network, leading to significant cancellations and service reductions.
While most CrossCountry routes are impacted, near-normal service is expected to run between Peterborough, Cambridge, and Stansted Airport.
Advice and compensation for passengers
A CrossCountry spokesperson emphasised the extensive disruption, stating:
"A power cut in Birmingham city centre has affected the building where our control centre is located. As a result, many of the systems our control teams use to manage the railway are currently unavailable. Although colleagues are working hard to safely operate services using alternative processes, CrossCountry services will be significantly disrupted on Sunday 23 August."
Ticket acceptance is in place with other train operators across the CrossCountry network, enabling passengers to use services operated by other companies.
Customers experiencing delays of 30 minutes or more may be eligible for Delay Repay compensation.
For those opting not to travel, refunds can be claimed from the original point of purchase.
Monitoring updates and additional details
CrossCountry customers are advised to review their journey plans before heading to the station.
