Operation Vulcan disrupts criminal activity on Brinnington's rail network
Collaborative action targets drugs, weapons, and fare evasion
Operation Vulcan continues its proactive, partnership-led efforts to tackle criminal activity on the rail network in Brinnington.
A recent day of action saw officers from the Vulcan team join forces with British Transport Police, rail workers, and Transport for Greater Manchester at Brinnington Station to enhance security and disrupt drug and weapon transport.
Successful collaborative efforts
During the operation, officers conducted 14 stop-searches based on reasonable suspicion, leading to five positive detections for Class A and B drugs. Those found with drugs received out of court disposals, and one individual received a summons to court.
Rail network representatives also issued fines for fare evasion, contributing to the broader effort to maintain safety and order.
Since focusing on Brinnington three months ago, officers have made numerous arrests, recovered substantial quantities of drugs, and seized multiple vehicles, demonstrating the impact of coordinated policing strategies.
Continued community partnership
Inspector Dan Cullum, from GMP’s Operation Vulcan team, emphasized the importance of collaboration beyond policing.
“The Vulcan partnership does not just involve police – it includes teams and people from across different organisations, groups, charities and more, who all come together,” Inspector Cullum said.
He highlighted the value of coordinated approaches with partners like British Transport Police and Transport for Greater Manchester in maintaining public safety and confidence in the transport system.
Positive feedback from the public reinforces the success of these collaborative efforts in reducing crime and providing reassurance to the community.
