Police investigating reports of firearms use on St Joseph’s Drive

A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear following reports of gunfire in Salford.

Police were called to St Joseph’s Drive on Sunday 1 February at around 8.16pm after reports of a firearm being discharged.

Armed officers attended the scene and entered a property on St Joseph’s Drive following a stand-off. A man was arrested and detained for questioning.

Detective Superintendent Simon Moyles said:

“We are treating this incident with the utmost seriousness.

"The use of firearms and acts of intimidation have absolutely no place in Greater Manchester, and we will not tolerate them.

“Our officers responded swiftly to protect the public, and our investigation will continue to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

“My appeal to the public is this: if you witnessed anything, or if you have any information that could assist our enquiries, please come forward.

“This includes anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage from the area at the time.”
