A 20-year-old man has been arrested in Bury following an incident where a car drove at police officers attempting a stop.

At 3pm yesterday (22/5), on Bury New Road in Whitefield, Bury, police officers tried to stop a vehicle.

The car did not comply and advanced towards the officers, prompting a GMP firearms officer to discharge a weapon.

The driver was subsequently taken to hospital with an arm injury, which has been confirmed as neither life-threatening nor life-changing. Fortunately, no police officers were hurt during the event.

The ongoing investigation has led to the arrest of a 20-year-old man under suspicion of involvement in the supply of Class A drugs.

Police Presence and Community Concerns

Detective Superintendent Joe Harrop from the Serious Crime Division addressed community worries stemming from the incident and the noticeable increase in police presence.

"We know people in the area will be concerned by what has happened and the visible increase in police officers in the local area as our investigations continue," Harrop said.

He reassured residents that no members of the public or officers were harmed and expressed gratitude for their patience as inquiries at the scene proceed.

“Should anyone have any concerns, please speak with our officers who are out in the local area, they are there to listen and assist where possible,” Harrop added.

Investigations are ongoing.
