Man arrested on M60 following high-speed pursuit for multiple offences
Suspect linked to dangerous driving and indecent images remains in custody
A 37-year-old man has been arrested on various charges following a high-speed pursuit on the M60 motorway near Oldham.
The incident occurred yesterday, when an officer from Greater Manchester Police's Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit (TVIU) spotted a BMW driving erratically. The pursuit began shortly after 3:35pm and saw the car reaching speeds over 120mph in rainy conditions.
Arrest details
The driver, who was wanted on recall to prison, rapidly swerved back onto the motorway after seemingly preparing to exit, prompting officers to engage in a pursuit.
The two-minute chase involved dangerous driving at excessive speeds, weaving between vehicles and entering oncoming traffic. All this occurred until the suspect de-camped from the vehicle and was promptly arrested.
The man is suspected of driving while disqualified, dangerous driving, possession of indecent images of children, and is still in custody as further enquiries are conducted by police.
Police response
Detective Sergeant Carla Dalton from GMP’s Challenger Team spoke positively about the arrest:
“This was a successful pursuit which resulted in the arrest of a suspect for various offences – and we are currently progressing our investigation.
“Our TVIU officers are highly trained for pursuit situations, ensuring they can secure quick and efficient arrests of individuals who simply don’t care for the safety of others around them.”
The incident underscores GMP's readiness to tackle dangerous driving and criminal activity in the region, showcasing their persistence to uphold public safety.
Police continue their investigation as the suspect remains in custody for questioning.
