Four men have been arrested after an incident involving aggressive driving and weapons in Heywood last weekend.

Police executed warrants at three addresses in Heywood, Rochdale and Middleton early on 9th April after reports of a violent disorder involving two cars on 5th April.

Detective Superintendent Richard Hunt of Rochdale Police described the disturbance as "shocking" and assured the community that such behaviour would not be tolerated.

Details of the incident

Officers were alerted after 10pm on 5th April to reports of a disturbance on Prospect Street involving a white BMW 1 Series and a grey Audi A3.

The occupants of the vehicles were driving aggressively, with deliberate ramming reported. It is believed individuals in the Audi had weapons and were pursuing the BMW, causing one occupant of the BMW to suffer minor injuries.

Both vehicles were abandoned and later found on Hind Hill Street and Aragon Drive in Heywood.

Following overnight raids on 9th April, four men in their 20s were arrested for violent disorder. Two of these individuals face additional charges related to possession with intent to supply class A and B drugs.

Ongoing investigation

Due to extensive enquiries, officers identified five further suspects in connection with the incident. One suspect arrested on the night has been released on bail and efforts are ongoing to locate a fifth suspect who remains outstanding.

Detective Superintendent Hunt emphasised the diligence of his officers and their commitment to public safety:

“Over recent days, my officers and the wider team have been working around the clock to gather evidence and identify those responsible for this violent disorder.

We are pursuing all available lines of enquiry and will take robust action against those involved. Our priority remains the safety of the public, and we will continue to have a visible presence in the area to provide reassurance and prevent further incidents.”

Rochdale Police is determined to hold those accountable for the disorder and ensure the community's security through proactive measures.
